Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26 1926 - October 18 1999) was an American actor and singer with a career that spanned over 40 years. London is a torch singer famous for her smooth, melodic vocals and languid contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955-1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry me a river", which she recorded and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her part in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began around 1944 with roles in films. This included roles as the lead female character in many westerns. She also appeared with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-50s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. The album she released was her last studio album in 1969, however, she was able to continue to make a name for herself as the female lead role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she played alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband was the producer of the show.
