Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football with volunteer work in the community. The first family is his youngest of the nine children of Lucious Selmon and Jessie raised on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. The Selmons were also among the three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi award as the top lineman in America. For the three seasons that Roy played as a player, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship, and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned his degree in education. Lee Roy was involved in voluntary work for 10 hours a week while he attended college. In Tampa the Buccaneers, he was a player for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. He also began an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, he was an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's 10 outstanding young men. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch higher and weighing in at the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was player, commanded his team for the year 1975. In 1993, he joined the university of south Florida's athletic department as its assistant director. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988.
